Dear Skaters, Coaches, and Parents,

The seventh annual Ohio Cup competition will be held at the Roll Arena in Elyria, Ohio on April 27, 28 & 29. We are located right off the Ohio Turnpike, less than 30 minutes west of Cleveland. Our floor is 80’ by 180’ rotunda hardwood maple. We have attracted skaters from eight of the nine regions to comprise over two hundred first entries in recent years. At this time judges Debra and David Adamy, Tracy Black, Gary Callahan, Sylvia Haffke, Cecelia Kelly, Billy Mastriano, Leslie Dunn Myers, Dennis Nendza, Art Ripley, and Dennis Welch have agreed to join us. David Adamy will be the Meet Director with Debra Adamy as Chief Referee. Additionally, THERE WILL BE NO SPECTATOR CHARGE FOR FAMILY MEMBERS OF SKATERS.

This year we are planning a three-day schedule this year to accommodate the growing number of entries but we want to ensure that no one gets stuck skating all three days of the competition. We will begin with a controlled practice on Friday, April 27 from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. (The cost of the practice will be $5.00.) Following a short break, we will begin judging and the afternoon and evening will be dedicated to adult dance events. Youth and elite events will join in on Saturday but we want to wrap up all adult events by the end of that day. Youth and elite events will continue through Sunday.
Members of the Roll Arena coaching staff, Jane Wojnarowsky and Tracy Black, will be offering a workshop on the new Rollart scoring system. Both recently traveled to Italy to learn about Rollart. Get tuned in now. It will be with us soon.

Entry fees remain at $30 for the first event, $20 for additional events, and $10 for combined and introductory events. All entries must be POSTMARKED by MARCH 19.

Figures: Figure 1 and Figure 1B.  Each contestant will complete ONE repetition of each figure and will be judged on body position, edge quality, tracing, and pace.

Dance:  Contestants will perform the corner sequence of the Glide Waltz (steps 7, 8, 9, & 10) in a circle at one end of the floor that will be designated.  All contestants will skate together from a rolling start and will continue until the judging is complete.  After a short break, contestants will perform the corner sequence of the Progressive Tango (steps 7, 8, 9, & 10).  Judging will be based on body position, timing, edge quality, technique at the foot, and extension of the free leg.

Singles Freestyle:  Contestants will skate a program of up to 1 minute duration.  Required items will include a two-foot jump of  ½ turn,  forward crossovers—completing one full circle, backward scissors, bunny hop—up to three in a row, and a two-foot spin.  Music is of the skaters’ choice and may be vocal.  Judging will be based on ability to perform the required elements and the quality of the content performed.
